SHAPED BY POLIO
Memory, bodies and the politics of care
↓

Shaped by Polio is a research-based visual and ethnographic project that explores how poliomyelitis continues to shape bodies, memories and everyday life far beyond the moment of infection. It exposes the social and political conditions through which care is organised and inequality is produced.
Through ethnographic research, life stories and visual materials, the project engages with the politics of care, highlighting how support, neglect and access to resources are unevenly distributed. In doing so, it seeks to make visible forms of structural inequality that often remain overlooked, while recognising the practices, knowledge and strategies through which people sustain their lives.
Starting from a local context in Spain, Shaped by Polio documents and shares situated experiences while opening a broader conversation on illness, disability and social justice. Conceived as an evolving platform, the project aims to expand internationally, connecting contexts and contributing to processes of visibility, recognition and social transformation.
